Meditation

Meditation is the process of clearing your mind and becoming one with yourself and and your surroundings. It is a very relaxing skill to have.

How to Meditate

There are many different ways to meditate, however this is the one that I use. First, find a quiet room that you will be uninterupted whilst you are meditating.

The Position

Sit down in the lotus position, with both of your feet on top of your lap. Like this:

The Lotus Position

Rest your arms on your knees with your palms facing upward. Touch together your middle finger and thumb. Relax, and close your eyes.

Too painful? It also works fine if you lay down on your back, whilst resting your palms on the ground.

The Method

Close your eyes and focus on something. It can be the feeling or air on your feet, the sound of a fan buzzing, or the smell of a relaxing oil. Gently relax each muscle of your body one at a time. From your toes to your head, each muscle is very relaxed! Clear your mind of all of your thoughts, of work, of school, of whatever. Imagine a shredder or some other device shredding your thoughts, and you are free of them.

Get rid of any expectations you have of what meditation should be, and just 'be' in the meditation. Feel the environment around you.

White Light Exercises

I usually go on afterward, to imagine a 'shell' of white light surrounding my body. It is like a cacoon around me. I imagine it cracking, and shattering off of me. I can hear the shattering of it, which sounds like glass. This relaxes even more.

Now, imagine a cup of bright light above your head, it slowly starts to pour into the top of your head, filling up your body with it's white light. Each crevice. As soon as your whole body is filled up, feel the light starting to drain from your feet.

Congradulations! You are meditating. Just remain relaxed, and in this state of mind to continue for as long as needed. (I usually shoot for about 10 minutes) Some people (including myself) also light candles, burn inscense, stimulate chakras with crystals and stones or oils or listen to meditative music.
